ABOUT THE COURSE
The Range Safety Officer (RSO) course is intended for club shooters who may or may not have had any formal training in the practical aspects of running ranges.
The course is designed to enhance range safety by providing practical and relevant training and guidance, and is not specific to any particular shooting discipline or type of range.
Students will learn how to inspect, maintain and run a shooting range complex using the NRA Safe Shooting System. The course details all aspects of safe range management, with essential topics such as the law, range regulations and guest days also included.
It consists of written and oral tests, and on-range practical assessments. Live firing on ranges will be conducted during the course to assess the delegates in the use of effective range control and management.
This is a 2-day course, each day running consecutively from 0830 - 1630, with a mixture of classroom and on-range practical exercises.
A brief outline of each day is below:
Day 1:
This day is classroom based and will focus on the role of an NRA Range Safety Officer. Areas covered include understanding the NRA Safe Shooting System (SSS) and the correct knowledge, skills and attitude required to safely conduct live firing.
Day 2:
This day is a mix of classroom and live firing on range. Some areas covered include Range Officer planning, range briefings, and range inspections and maintenance. Students will be required to demonstrate their ability to safely handle and use firearms. They will also require a basic understanding of ballistic and elevation tables for firearms used at longer ranges.
Successful students will be awarded the NRA’s Range Safety Officer qualification in the safe running of Club ranges, and will be authorised to act as a Range Officer on civilian ranges.
Joining instructions with information on course timings and location will be emailed out around 2 weeks before the course date. *Please ensure to check your junk folder if you have not received them a week prior to the course start date.
