ABOUT THE COURSE

The Range Safety Officer course is intended for club shooters of all levels of experience, who may not have had any formal training in the practical aspects of running ranges.

The course is designed to enhance range safety by providing practical and relevant training and guidance and is not specific to any particular shooting discipline or type of range. It consists of written and oral tests, and on-range practical assessments. Other essential topics, such as the law, range regulations, and guest days are also covered.

Successful students will be awarded the NRA’s Range Safety Officer qualification in the safe running of club ranges, and will be authorised to act as a Range Officer.

This is a two-day course, each day from 0830 - 1630, with a mixture of classroom and on-range practical exercises.

Joining instructions with info on timings and location will be sent out around 2 weeks before the course date.

PREPARATION

There is no advance preparation required for this course, however you may find it useful to have a read through the online pdf versions of the Range Safety Officers Handbook and the Range Managers Guide. Hard copies of these will be issued on the course.

BEFORE APPLYING, PLEASE NOTE:

Students should be experienced shooters and must be a member of a Home Office Approved Club. Only those members who are considered to be suitable, and who stand a good chance of passing, should be put forward by their clubs.

This course is one of the prerequisites of being eligible to attend the NRA Range Conducting Officer course which qualifies students to run MoD ranges. A Range Safety Officer is not qualified to conduct shoots on MoD ranges.
