ABOUT THE COURSE

The two-day NRA Range Conducting Officer course is intended for suitable club members to gain the qualification necessary to allow them to sign for and run a Ministry of Defence (MoD) range.

The course is designed to provide essential information, test the knowledge and assess the range skills of applicants, including:

  •          Ensuring full compliance with, and the implementation of, proper safety procedures at all times.
  •          The adoption of correct procedures on DIO facilities and the furtherance of good relations with the military authorities.
  •          Maintaining control of and taking responsibility for shooting practices.
  •          The development of common standards for range conduct and discipline

This is a two-day course, each day from 0830 - 1630, with a mixture of classroom and on-range practical exercises.

Joining instructions with info on timings and location will be sent out around 2 weeks before the course date.

PREPARATION

It is a requirement that each student pre-reads the Range Conducting Officers Handbook before attending the course, found by clicking here.  A hard copy of the manual will be issued on the course.

BEFORE APPLYING, PLEASE NOTE:

Students should be experienced shooters who have passed the Range Safety Officer course. Only those members who are considered to be suitable, and who stand a good chance of passing, should be put forward by their clubs.

The MoD requires that their ranges, when used by civilian clubs, should be run to the same standards of safety as they are when used by the military. Pass requirements are high, and the course is not to be undertaken lightly. Students must understand the level of responsibility that they are taking on.
