Welcome to the Probationary Training Programme for novice shooters!

This programme is comprised of 6 training modules designed to help you develop the skills and confidence you need to shoot independently, with a club and to enter competitions.

Module 3 will introduce you to:

  •          Using elevation table for longer range shooting
  •          Wind reading and calculating sight changes
  •          How to use a score card

You will leave the day:

  •          Feeling comfortable with assessing different wind conditions to get on target with your first shot
  •          Familiar with the NRA scorecard

This is a full day course, from 0830 - 1630, with a mixture of classroom and on-range practical exercises.

Joining instructions with info on timings and location will be sent out around 2 weeks before the course date.

There is no essential pre-reading before Module 3, however you might like to read through the Module 3 section of the Probationary Training Manual in preparation. You will have been issued a hard copy of the manual on Module 1 but the PDF version can be found by clicking here.

If you are unable to shoot from a prone position, then a bench will be provided. You must let us know in advance if this is required.

This course involves spending time outdoors on the ranges, even if it's raining, and not all ranges are under cover. Please make sure to dress appropriately for the weather and temperature. Sturdy, full coverage footwear is recommended.

If you need to cancel/ rebook:

Cancellation/re-booking less than 5 working days before the course will incur a £20 cancellation charge.

If the NRA needs to cancel a course:

All courses hold the possibility of being cancelled if they do not reach the minimum number of attendees. If this happens, we will endeavour to give you as much notice as possible. You will be given the option to transfer over to a new date, or to receive a full refund for the course.

Please note, any non-refundable accommodation booked by you is done so at your own risk. The cost of this will not be reimbursed by the NRA should a course need to be cancelled.
