Welcome to the Probationary Training Programme for novice shooters!

This programme is comprised of 6 training modules designed to help you develop the skills and confidence you need to shoot independently, with a club and to enter competitions.

Module 1 will introduce you to:

  •          The NRA’s four Safety Rules
  •          The basics of handling firearms
  •          Principles of marksmanship

You will leave the day:

  •          Feeling comfortable with the basics of firearms handling
  •          Fully aware of the basic principles of safety and muzzle awareness
  •          Familiar with how to shoot from standing and bench positions with a variety of firearms

This is a full day course, from 0830 - 1630, with a mixture of classroom and on-range practical exercises.

Joining instructions with info on timings and location will be sent out around 2 weeks before the course date.

Ahead of your Module 1 course date, it is required that you read the Module 1 pre-reading material found by clicking here

A hard copy of the Probationary Manual will be issued in the classroom, but if you wish to have a read through this beforehand, please do so by clicking here.

This course involves spending time outdoors on the ranges, even if it's raining, and not all ranges are under cover. Please make sure to dress appropriately for the weather and temperature. Sturdy, full coverage footwear is recommended.

The Probationary Training programme is only open to those who have received a formal communication from the Membership Department. Please do not book onto a Probationary Module until you have received a Probationary Membership approval email and your membership number from the Membership team. Any bookings made before you receive this will be cancelled.

Cancellation/re-booking less than 5 working days before the course will incur a £20 cancellation charge.
