This one day Skills Development Course will provide the fundamental skills for taking part in Civilian Service Rifle (CSR) events and competitions. The day comprised of both classroom and practical range work, with expert coaching from national and international level shooters on topics including types of firearms, equipment and positional shooting techniques.

COVID-19 notice:

If you are feeling unwell or have Covid-19 symptoms, please do not visit the National Shooting Centre (NSC), no matter how mild the symptoms. The NSC has put in place Covid-secure procedures throughout the camp. Please adhere to the various notices and instructions. We respectfully ask that you maintain social distancing at all times, and practice regular hand washing throughout your time on site.

Course Fee:

  • The course is open to any person who is not a prohibited person under section 21 of the Firearms Act, and is a member of a Home Office Approved Club
  • Entry to the course is £70.00 which includes use of Century Range, targets, coaching. It does not include tea and coffee and lunch – you will need to provide your own. Under 25s receive a 40% discount off the entry fee.
  • Non-NRA members are welcome, but are required to pay an additional Non-NRA Member Fee of £7.25
  • Ammunition and firearms are not included and attendees are expected to bring their own. If not yet in possession of a suitable firearm attendees can have use of an NRA AR-15 type rifle for £18.50 for the day, and purchase sufficient ammunition for £48.50, both will be issued on the range by the Instructor.

Shooter Certification Card (SCC) Assessment - NRA Members Only:

If you are an NRA Member and wish to add "Telescope Rifle" (or “Iron Sighted Rifle” if using a historic service rifle) to your SCC you can undertake an assessment at the end of the course. There is no additional fee, but you will need to book in advance.

Non-Members can take the same assessment, and will be presented with a certificate of attendance. Your Club Chairman may then decide to authorise “Telescope Rifle” to be added to your SCC.

Dress & Equipment:

Light Gore-Tex jackets are recommended with under layers according to the weather, and suitable lightweight walking-type trousers with waterproof over trousers if required.  Jeans and heavy cotton trousers are not suitable. 

You will need:

  • Ear defenders
  • Firearm
  • Approximately 100 rds. ammunition
  • Normal shooting equipment
  • Notebook and pencil

Please be advised that you will be shooting prone and the ground may be muddy. 

Cancellations: 

Cancellations before Wednesday 23rd September at midday will receive a full refund. After this time entries are fully chargeable.
